Spain
The number of Spanish households struggling with energy poverty has worsened steadily over the last decade, increasing drastically in 2021 during the first peak of the energy price crisis. Despite measures by the Spanish government, including social tariff reforms and direct discounts on electricity bills for vulnerable households, the number of households experiencing energy poverty continues to increase. Organisations fighting for the right to energy in Spain are currently advocating to transform the current moratorium on energy disconnections into a permanent ban. Additionally, they are aiming to reach agreements with energy supply companies for them to cover unpaid bills for vulnerable families.
