Bulgaria
Bulgaria has one of the highest levels of energy poverty in Europe. With more than 20% of households unable to adequately heat their homes, it falls into the “Extreme Energy Poverty” category. With the majority of the energy poor living in single family buildings in dilapidated housing in rural areas, and 93% of multi-family buildings in urban areas needing an energy renovation, the most effective way to relieve people struggling with energy poverty is to support energy efficiency home improvements – for public health as well as the environment. Bulgaria’s situation needs a sustainable and systematic approach to address local obstacles and efficiently renovate single and multi-family buildings.
