In early December, the EU postponed its proposal for a sustainable corporate governance law for a second time. Indicating a shocking lack of urgency from the EU. It is unacceptable that such a crucial new law, that would help millions of people to demand justice against human rights violations, and help to safeguard our environment and climate, is delayed again and again.
Workers, communities, Indigenous peoples, and ecosystems around the world will continue to pay the price of the impacts of unsustainable corporate behaviour and the damage the delay will cause.
We wrote an Open Letter together with 46 civil society and trade union organisations, urging the European Commission’s President to show leadership in regulating corporations. Companies have to be liable for respecting human rights and the environment, all through their value chains, while improving victims’ access to justice.
