The European Commission is developing its plan for how we farm animals in the EU – the ‘Livestock Strategy’. It will shape the future of EU farming, from farmer incomes to health, and animal welfare to environmental impact.
As the “Livestock Workstream” meets today to advise the Commission on the Strategy’s content, Friends of the Earth Europe joins 16 other organisations from the EU Food Policy Coalition in submitting a joint input.
Our message is simple: this is the perfect opportunity to make sure the future of animal farming works for farmers, people, animals and the planet. And to protect the future of Europe’s agriculture – and the millions of people who depend on it.
To get this right, the Strategy must take measures to:
- Support farmers to lead the transition
- Reduce pollution and protect health
- End factory animal production
