2012 marks 50 years since the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) was introduced. It’s also the year that major reforms to the policy get underway.
Young Friends of the Earth Europe is taking action and demanding fairer and more sustainable farming in Europe with its new reCAP campaign – aimed at the CAP reform.
50 days, 50 actions: a greener CAP
This autumn, Young Friends of the Earth groups are organising a series of actions to promote sustainable farming and reject intensive and polluting factory farming. For 50 days from 19th September to 7th November, Young Friends of the Earth Europe will organise 50 actions to raise public awareness and call on politicians to rethink the CAP.
The launch of the campaign coincides with the arrival of the Good Food March in Brussels which is bringing people’s demands, including many young people’s, for reforms to the Common Agricultural Policy. Young Friends of the Earth Europe will be joining the march and kicking off reCAP with our own banners and messages on the reform of the CAP.
Young Friends of the Earth groups and activists, on a local and national level, who want to join are urged to get in touch and organise an action or awareness raising activity to demand reforms to the CAP. Pictures and reports from all actions will be compiled in one special picture gallery on the Young Friends of the Earth website, to show that young people from all corners of Europe want a reform of Europe’s farming system.
As a warm up to the launch of reCAP, participants at this year’s Young Friends of the Earth Europe summer camp made this special reCAP song illustrating our vision for food and farming.
