Today a ‘girl band’ dressed as ‘oily bankers’ protested outside the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) sponsored ‘Scottish Low Carbon Conference’ at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre .
The Friends of the Earth Scotland activists, Mary, Gail, Emilia, Hannah, and Beth, sang Jessie J’s recent chart-topping “Price Tag” song, complete with rap section and lyrics altered to tell the story of RBS’s highly destructive oil and gas investments, including the mining of tar sands in Canada,
The Royal Bank of Scotland is the bank most heavily involved in financing the fossil fuel industry, including the Canadian Tar sands which has been described as the most destructive project on earth. The group carried out the action to highlight RBS’s ‘greenwashing’ by acting as main sponsor of the 2011 Scottish Low Carbon Investment Conference.
Friends of the Earth Scotland is calling on people to pressure RBS Chief Executive Stephen Hester to take taxpayers money out of tar sands.
