Friends of the Earth Europe is looking for one or multiple facilitators to provide a training session on decolonial solidarity work at the international level.
Requirement
Online training on decolonial solidarity work (and campaigns) within the pillars of Internationalist Solidarity System
Duration
Minimum 6 hours (1 day or multiple days)
Time line
Early December or late January
Skills and competencies
We are looking for a skilled facilitator(s) and/or trainer(s) who is experienced in the development and delivery of decolonial and/anti-colonial training for staff from member and community groups. Knowledge (and preferably experience) of grassroots campaigning would be extremely desirable.
Budget
EUR 3000 flat fee/VAT-included (note: additional budget might be available for a follow-up training)
Number of participants: +/- 30
Training objectives
- Providing a general understanding of what allyship and anti-oppression work entail: focusing on decolonial and anticolonial racial justice, including its structure and anchoring in capitalistic, patriarchal and ableist systems
- Raising awareness on unconscious bias, touching on the basic elements of racism/ privilege/ discrimination/ white supremacy
- Embedding anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices in our solidarity work to strengthen the network in becoming a supportive environment, especially for those communities we work with who are disproportionately impacted by environmental and social injustice e.g. BIPOC/Global Majority
- Ensuring tangible outcomes, guidance on developing strategies for effective implementation and accountability for FoEE staff from all levels to:
- Proactively integrate anticolonial solidarity work into campaigns (including work with external allies/new allies)
- Reflect on changing/challenging organisational practices on solidarity work and campaigning on national and European levels
We propose to organise a meeting beforehand to discuss the current situation in the Friends of the Earth network, and – if relevant – to share an overview of our internationalist solidarity system (pillars/approaches). Our objectives are very ambitious and we’re looking for input from the trainer in terms of setting priorities and opportunities for this training session.
Training specifics
- Facilitated online (ideally Zoom) in late January or early February
- Either in two sessions, or in 1 full session
- Including smaller break-out groups for people to engage and speak
- Permission to share training resources and tools to enhance the learning process
Application process
Please express you interest by sending us your application on a letter of maximum two sides, addressing the following:
- Why are you the ideal candidate to provide this training and why would you like to take it on
- A brief outline of what you propose for the training, including:
- A breakdown of your delivery schedule, including the number of sessions you’d provide and your preparation and evaluation time.
- An outline of training programme, including the tools/toolkit accessible to participants
- Our network is large with 32 groups and we’d like to involve a large majority of them without compromising quality. Recognising the majority of our activism staff at Friends of the Earth are white, would you advise delivering the training yourself or doing a train the trainers (or both)? Please state why.
- How you would manage the different views and levels of background knowledge of participants
- We need to ensure training sessions provide long-term learning and development opportunities for the network. We need to support the network beyond, during and after any training that takes place. Can you provide any suggestions on how you’d approach this? (note, these do not have to be implemented)
Deadline
Wednesday, December 8 at 9.30AM CET.
