We have joined with 42 civil society organisations to write and sign on to a position paper with our views on the European Commission’s proposed EU Critical Raw Materials Act and how it needs to be improved by the European Parliament and Member States.
This includes that the EU needs to actively reduce its dependence on primary raw materials, that voluntary certification schemes should not be a primary tool in mining projects, that streamlined permitting must not come at the cost of environmental protection, that Free, Prior, and Informed Consent of Indigenous People’s is at the center of strategic projects, and that the Act prioritises a circular economy approach.
