Our project
According to a 2020 survey, the majority of Europeans are not satisfied with the solidarity between EU Member States in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, we have been witnessing diverse examples of solidarity between people as a powerful tool to tackle common challenges, be it COVID or the climate crisis.
Starting from solidarity as a founding value of the EU, we want to
- spread a positive vision of a caring society and increase a sense of connection between communities across borders
- encourage people to support and replicate existing solidarity actions
- stimulate dialogue and consideration about how to uphold and strengthen solidarity in the transition to a sustainable future.
To spread these messages, we want to tell 5-10 real stories about people acting in solidarity and creating a better world together already.
And we need YOU to present these stories in attractive, colourful ways to reach people across Europe (especially young people).
Your artwork
We are looking for creations in the fields of photography, video or digital visual design telling different stories of people acting in solidarity within Europe. While we are open and flexible about the format and type of artwork/s, they have to be easily shareable through digital channels and translatable (or understandable) in different languages and contexts.
Eligibility
The call is open for any contemporary artists in the EU. Preference will be given to artists that come from one of the audience groups we want to reach with the stories, or another traditionally under-represented group.
What you get out of it
The selected artist will be commissioned by Friends of the Earth Europe to create artworks for 5-10 stories of solidarity. Our budget is around 4500 EUR. Image rights of the artwork will remain with Friends of the Earth Europe although the artist is free to use them crediting Friends of the Earth Europe and our project.
