Civil society organisations have a critical role to play in a healthy democracy – bringing people’s voices to decision-making, and holding governments, institutions and corporations to account.
Regrettably civil society rights are under threat globally, including in Europe.
The Friends of the Earth Europe network is experiencing shrinking space in all its forms. This briefing explains what shrinking space is and its root causes, and brings case studies and from our network of civil society being under threat. It calls on decision-makers to actively protect civil society organisations and actively promote their role in policy development and decision-making.
